A Montessori puzzle ball is a great material! It's an interestingly shaped ball, that has many spots to start to grab on to and explore. That makes it perfect for infants who are still developing their grip. For non-mobile infants, hanging the puzzle ball (with or without a small bell) can provide an interesting and fun new tactile mobile.

Hang it with the strap attached above your baby from 3 months of age to promote kicking. At about 5 months your baby will begin to move the ball with her hands and begin to try and clutch it.

The segments make it easier for a baby to clutch than a regular ball. And when it drops, it won't roll far. It's the perfect first ball for babies, and is a popular favorite baby toy.

As babies get more mobile, the puzzle ball is still an excellent choice because it can roll a bit away from the baby, but it's shape keeps it from rolling too fast or too far. So, it provides some challenge, but not an insurmountable one, like many other balls.

The puzzle ball is made of 12 sections sewn together, stuffed with poly fill and then assembled into the ball shape.

This is a Montessori pedagogy inspired toy. Also called an ""Amish puzzle ball"", it was popularized by Montessori educators. Our balls do not come apart, so are not actually a puzzle, but your baby will examine it as if it were a puzzle.
