This sight word game has knights climbing up ladders and falling down the pits in an effort to reach the top of the castle. As children play this funky variation of snakes and ladders, they learn to read all the sight words necessary for reading a simple story book.
Interesting Trivia: Snakes and Ladders is believed to have been invented in India as early as 2BC. It surfaced under the name “Moksh path” again in the 13th century during the time of Sant Gyandev. It was intended as a game to instruct young children in morals and values, with each square representing a virtue/ fault. It was later colonised by the English and modified in its current avatar.
As children play this game, they effortlessly absorb all the basic sight words needed for simple reading and writing like – in, of, above and so on. They hence can start reading small pictorial story books early. Game play also enhances their ability to socialise, as they learn the rules of the games, and understand mechanisms of moving forward , reaching the end and so on.
